Wikki Tourists FC 1-1 Kwara United FC Wikki Tourists allowed the furore over the reduction of their squad to have an effect on their game as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Afonja Warriors led by the former coach of the Bauchi side, Tunde Abdulrahman. Both goals were scored in the second half with Segun Alebiosu cancelling the hosts’ lead.
Kwara United are still unbeaten after three matches. They have won a game and drawn two. They have five points and will got to Heartland next in Owerri when the league reopens after the general elections.
Sharks FC 1-0 Akwa United FC
The Blue Angels finally beat the Promise Keepers in Port Harcourt. The visitors went into the game unbeaten in Port Harcourt for the past three seasons but Yusuf Jaiyeola’s goal separated both sides.
Sharks now have four points from three matches while Akwa United only have a point and this will no doubt heap pressure on new coach Zachary Baraje.
Enyimba FC 1-0 Bayelsa United FC
Last season’s highest scorer Mfon Udoh announced his return to the People’s Elephant with a goal which earned the Aba Millionaires their first win of the season against the Restoration Boys. It was his third game for the club after his celebrated desire to leave for Europe was punctured by the high demands of Enyimba management.
Enyimba now have five points from three games but Bayelsa United have only a point to show for their efforts after three matches.
FC Taraba 0-0 Lobi Stars
The Makurdi side are fast becoming draw specialists after they held the Jalingo Boys to a goalless draw at the Jolly Nyame Stadium on Sunday. FC Taraba were looking for their third straight win on the bounce but the Dominic Iorfa-inspired Lobi ensured they returned home with a vital point at the end of the game. It was a local derby.
FC Taraba have seven points after three games and are still on top of the league while Lobi are on three points from three matches.
Ifeanyi Uba FC 1-0 Enugu Rangers
The Nnewi side are exerting their influence on the league despite gaining promotion to the top flight at the end of last season. They have started the season with a bang and have remained very difficult to beat. They added the Flying Antelopes to their list of victims after a narrow 1-0 win netted by Chibuzor Okonkwo whose 25-yard free kick sailed to the back of the net.
Ifeanyi Uba FC now have six points from three matches while Rangers with only three points from same number of games have missed out on the largesse of their Board Chairman, Festus Onu who promised them N300,000 if they get anything other than a defeat.
El Kanemi Warriors 3-1 Abia Warriors
The Borno Army got another vital home victory to secure six points from three games after they thrashed Abia Warriors 3-1 in Kano.
Goals from Sunday Ayantunji, Ibrahim Mustapha and Tammy Tams ensured that the home side were in comfortable lead while Ifeanyi Onyeali’s brief equalizer in the 35th minute was only a consolation.
Heartland FC 5-2 Nasarawa United FC
The Naze Millionaires got their biggest home win in four years against the Solid Miners on Sunday after they whitewashed the visitors 5-2 in Owerri.
Ebere Odiche’s delightful free kick in the 22ndminute from 20 yards set the tone for the emphatic win while further goals by Fred Okwara, Bright Ejike (2) and Joseph Iniobong further reinforced the Owerri side’s resolve to have a go at the league title this season. Leonard Ugochukwu and Musa Mustapha scored for the visitors in the 45th and 60th minutes.
Despite playing without most of their regulars who are down to injuries, Heartland young guns delivered when it mattered to the delight of their head coach, Erasmus Onu Olottah who was more than thrilled to record a second consecutive win.
Heartland have six points from two matches and will shoot to the top if they beat Kano Pillars in a rescheduled match while Nasarawa United have three points from as many matches.
Giwa FC 1-0 Sunshine Stars
The Jos Elephants eventually scrapped to their first league win of the season after two earlier unimpressive results in Jos and Warri where they drew goalless and lost 0-3 respectively in the last two weeks.
Giwa FC have amassed four points from a possible nine while the Akure Gunners have suffered their first loss of the season. Sunshine have garnered four points from three games.
