Netherlands left World Cup holders Spain shaken to the core after they recorded a 5-1 thrashing in their opening game on Friday.

Two goals each from Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben and a far-post tap-in from Stefan de Vrij saw Louis van Gaal’s Oranje destroy Vicente del Bosque’s side, who had opened the scoring with a Xabi Alonso penalty in the first half.
