Spain newcomer Koke says he is learning a lot from Barcelona legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta as La Roja prepare to defend their World Cup title in Brazil.
Koke forced his way into Vicente del Bosque’s squad with his strong displays for Atletico Madrid over the past season, earning eight international caps to date.
And the 22-year-old is enjoying working with fellow midfielders Xavi and Iniesta, who have enjoyed rich success for club and country over the years.
“Every day I am learning from them, they have a lot to teach,” Koke is quoted as saying by Sport.
“I would like the speed with which they think on the pitch and [to emulate] how they read play before it happens. They try to bring the best out of each other.”
Spain start their World Cup defence against 2010 finalists Netherlands on Saturday, with Koke confident the Iberians can impress.
“Spain have a winning mentality. We go out every game and play with our form and style and the mentality to go out and win.”
