Global Sports : Lallana Reception Upsets Rodgers

posted in: News | 0

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says Adam Lallana was treated badly by his former club Southampton on Sunday.
The Saints lost 2-0 in a lively encounter at St Mary’s after an early Philippe Coutinho goal and Raheem Sterling’s second-half strike.
It was a result that left the visitors breathing down the necks of fifth-placed Southampton and while Rodgers was delighted with his team’s progress, he also took time to criticise the hosts for not paying tribute to their former colleague.
“Adam was the captain here for two years, gave incredible service to Southampton and I know for a fact he could have left here a number of times and didn’t,” the Reds boss said about the 26-year-old, who moved to Anfield for £25m last summer.
“To get the reception he got I thought was disappointing. I looked in the match programme and there was nothing relevant to his time here and all the time has been here since a boy.
“Then there’s the likes of Rickie Lambert – great servants to here, incredible players that have got the club to where it is today. There was no mention of him, which I thought was sad.”
Lambert and defender Dejan Lovren both joined the Southampton exodus to Anfield last summer.
