Liverpool are closing in on deals for Serbia and Benfica winger Lazar Markovic and Belgium and Lille forward Divock Origi as they prepare for life without Luis Suarez. 
The Reds are also renewing their efforts to persuade Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez to move to Anfield as part of the deal which will take Suarez in the opposite direction.
Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku says he has “choices to make” over his future. The 21-year-old Chelsea striker has spent the last two seasons on loan and there is interest in him from Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and Everton.
Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal is on Manchester United’s shortlist of targets, with a valuation of £40m unlikely to put the Old Trafford club off a move for the 27-year-old.
United are also in the market for a centre-back with Mats Hummel their first choice and Thomas Vermaelen also in their thinking.
Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has raised the temperature ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final by claiming that opponents Brazil “no longer play the magical football of the past” and highlight what he perceives as an overly physical approach.
Arsenal plan to resurrect their move for Germany and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, and the club are also closing in on deals for Alexis Sanchez and Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy.
Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard is expected to join A-League side Melbourne City on a short-term deal ahead of a move to New York City.
Manchester City have agreed a fee of £6m for Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
