Football: Giroud injury concerns

posted in: News | 1

Arsenal are anxiously waiting for an update on Olivier Giroud’s injury after concerns were raised that he suffered a broken ankle against Everton.
The Frenchman headed a late equaliser for the Gunners in Saturday’s 2-2 draw, but then injured himself while charging down a clearance from Sylvain Distin in the final minute at Goodison Park.
Manager Arsene Wenger was worried about his striker’s fitness after the match and the club are still assessing Giroud, with reports suggesting he was sent for two scans.
The France international will miss the Champions League play-off second leg against Besiktas on Tuesday and could be absent for around three months if Arsenal’s worst fears are confirmed.
Giroud’s absence would place further strain on the Gunners squad as Yaya Sanogo, his early season understudy, has been struggling with a hamstring injury and Alexis Sanchez is still adjusting to life in the Premier League.
Theo Walcott remains sidelined with a knee problem and Wenger could turn to the out-of-favour Lukas Poldolski, who has been linked with a move away from the Emirates.
