Fear has gripped commercial sex workers operating around the popular Hospital Junction in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, following reports that a soldier attached to the Joint Task Force, JTF had been stabbed to death by a prostitute over his alleged refusal to pay for services rendered.
The soldier (names withheld) was reportedly stabbed twice in the belly by the commercial sex worker, said to be from Edo State.
But a security source dismissed the claim that the soldier is dead, saying: “He is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.”
It was learnt that the incident, which occurred about 4 a.m., Sunday, caused pandemonium around the popular Hospital junction shanties on the DSP Alamieyeseigha Way, in Yenagoa.
Trouble, it was learnt, started when the soldier allegedly refused to pay the commercial sex worker for services rendered.
This led to heated argument as the infuriated sex worker was said to have grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the belly, causing his intestines to gush out.
Most of the customers that passed the night with other prostitutes in the area, were said to have fled the scene for fear of being identified by onlookers, who thronged the place in the wake of the confusion.
Contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, confirmed the incident and said the “culprit has been arrested and is facing investigation.”
