Chapter 43

I was ordered to stop my car beside Swiss
Pharmaceuticals, Dopemu. ..two lebanese guys
came to pick me up…one of them was smoking
and offered me a stick ,I declined…
At 11:30, some Danfo bus still moved around the
bus-stop…it reminded me of Bayo…even the
bleeping cigarettes reminded me of him..
I met Mr Ahmed standing beside a Bmw 3series.
He was a short man…cleanly shaved…he looked
harmless like your average school bus driver. ..
Mr Ahmed: Oh Mr Nathan…you look healthy…
Me: hello sir…
Mr Ahmed: Although your eyes are red and
puffy…it must be because of your friend…
Me: what do you want to see me about?
He ignored me like I hadn’t spoken…
Mr Ahmed: You see we are all dead men
walking…sometimes our brothers go earlier than
us …it doesn’t mean life isnt fair.. I lost my entire
family to the israeli soldiers…its life…
I was silent…
Mr Ahmed: lets just make money to make our
short stay pleasurable. ..
Images of me and Mr Ahmed at Paloma in Accra
crossed my mind…he was a fan of strippers…
Me: So what do you really wanna talk about…?
Mr Ahmed: …ok…I wanted you to meet some of
your former colleagues…they have been waiting
since noon…its rude to keep them waiting. ..
Me: im not in the mood for business…Mr
Ahmed…I have to take my exit now…
Mr Ahmed: If you indulge me….I assure you, you
will be glad…
Three other Lebanese joined us, then Mr Ahmed
led the way…Facing us was a Plaza, just after First
bank Plc…
Mr Ahmed: You know I have owned this place
since Buhari was Head of State.?
Me: ok…
Mr Ahmed: those were hard times. …Things were
hard for foreigners….u know?…the Ghanians had it
worse…
Me: I heard. ..
Mr Ahmed: you were not born then…I suppose?
Me: yes…
I was getting increasingly irritated by his
comments. .
He lead me upstairs to the last room…room..then
he unlocked it and entered…it was dark…my legs
hit a couple of Aluminium sheets…I realised we
were in s store…then I stood still…then one of his
boys turned on the light…
I took a while for my eyes to readjust to such
intensity of light. ..I noticed we weren’t the only
ones in the room…
Tied to the roof with their hands were two
people…
They were both Unclad…completely Unclad..sweat
dripped down their bodies…
Mr Ahmed was right…I was glad I came…
Amarachi and Alhaji werent as glad though..
