South West governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday met in Lagos to deliberate on the choice of a suitable running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Gen Muhamadu Buhari.
Though details of the meeting were sketchy at the time of going to press, a source close to the party told LEADERSHIP last night that the governors were meeting in Lagos.
But LEADERSHIP gathered that the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s name has cropped up among those being considered as Buhari’s running mate, thereby creating another dimension – the controversial issue of Muslim-Muslim ticket.
According to the source, the meeting is to enable the governors to chart a common front on the suitability and the electoral value of some of the individuals pencilled down to pair Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
Some of the names being touted for the post include three state governors: Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Adams Oshiomhole (Edo). Another person being considered is a former Lagos State attorney-general and commissioner for justice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).
