Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, ministers and some youths on Sunday gathered in Abuja to present what they described as the “other side of President Goodluck Jonathan” to Nigerians.
The roundtable conference was tagged “#GEJWinsIt: The other side of Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.”
At the programme put together to afford the speakers the opportunity of presenting to the public the achievements of the present administration, Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, promised Nigerians that they would soon celebrate as far as the power sector is concerned.
“Nigerians have a lot to celebrate in the next four years. We are doing everything possible to beat the challenges that have made it impossible for us to meet our promises to Nigerians.
“In the coming years, Nigerians should prepare to celebrate. He has been under-reported and under-appreciated. When voting on March 28, say carry on to Jonathan,” Nebo told the gathering.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed, also spoke on the achievements of the present administration aimed at making the FCT more conducive for residents.
He spoke of efforts being made to provide potable water, reduction in travel times within the city; reduction of time to access land and the provision of streetlights among others.
He said Abuja residents had had it so good under the leadership of the President.
“We want to create your Abuja in such a way that you will have a city that is for everybody as conceived by the city’s founding fathers,” the minister said.
Anyim, on his part, attributed the vibrancy of the leading opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, to the deliberate policy of the present administration to entrench democracy in the country.
He said the President was not in any way being disturbed by those who derive pleasure in criticising his government’s policies, insisting that the facts and figures speak differently.
He claimed that the present administration gave room for opposition parties to merge to form APC.
He added that Jonathan’s administration has also shown commitment to free, fair and credible elections which led to opposition parties winning in states like Anambra, Edo and Osun.
“President Jonathan believes that strong opposition is good for our democracy. Opposition should be very grateful to Mr. President. Say whatever you want to say, it doesn’t matter, we enjoy it,” Anyim said.
He pointed out that despite all negative comments against Jonathan and his government, there is no political prisoner in the country.
He added that his administration has been able to stabilise the National Assembly by not interfering in their operations in spite of the turbulence in the legislature.
All the youth that spoke at the event agreed to give Jonathan another chance.
One of them, Tosin Akerele, said as a human being that he is, Jonathan cannot be said to be perfect.
He said the President must however be ready to correct all the wrongs of his administration when given a second chance.
